Okonomiyaki-Hiroshima Style

A short walk to Okonomimura

Okonomimura, (Okonomiyaki village) in Hiroshima, is a collection of 24 restaurants in the same building all serving the famous dish of the common man, Okonomiyaki.

Okonomiyaki translates to “what you like and cooked” and is a savoury pancake-like delicacy. It is cooked in front of the customer, with ingredients layered one on top of the other with noodles packed inside.
Layering the customer’s preferred meat and vegetables is the Hiroshima style of Okonomiyaki. In the Osaka style, the ingredients are all cooked together then assembled into a giant pancake with sauce on top.

Okonomimura is a short walk from Peace Dome and worth the effort.
